Siemer Milling and Nagel & Son to establish wheat processing plant in Indiana

Siemer Milling and Nagel & Son have announced plans to establish a wheat processing joint venture (JV), to be called Whitewater Mill, in West Harrison, Indiana.

To be built using a $37.4m investment, the five-floor wheat flour mill JV will produce 700t of wheat-based products daily.

The project is scheduled to go onstream by mid-2015, and is expected to create up to 35 jobs by 2016.

The facility will process seven million bushels of wheat a year, majority of which will be supplied by local farmers.

It will produce flours, flour co-products, wheat germ and bran for snack and dessert foods, baking mixes, biscuits, batters and breadings.

The company plans to commence hiring millers, loaders, maintenance and packaging associates, laboratory technicians and managers for Whitewater Mill in early 2014.

Siemer Milling president Rick Siemer said, "Existing and potential wheat supply and flour demand factors point to long-term success for this venture."

The company has been awarded a grant of $325,000 in conditional tax credits by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, based on the company’s job creation plans.

Indiana Secretary of Commerce Victor Smith said, "Companies in the food industry continue to discover that when it comes to a healthy business climate, there is no better place in the world to invest and create new jobs than in Indiana."

At the request of the Dearborn County Economic Development Initiative, Dearborn County has approved additional incentives to Siemer.

Headquartered in Teutopolis, Illinois, Siemer Milling is a flour company that produces wheat bran for applications such as breads, cereals, snacks, fiber fortification, dietary supplement and wheat for the making of foods such as cookies, crackers and cakes.
