SensoryEffects buys QIC’s dairy and non-dairy creamer unit

SensoryEffects, a manufacturer of ingredients and flavours, has completed the acquisition of dairy and non-dairy creamer business of Quality Ingredients (QIC) for an undisclosed amount.

The transaction included a manufacturing facility in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Filtermat spray dryer and dry-blending equipment, formulas, technology, trademarks and intellectual property.

The QIC emulsified powder business is engaged in the manufacture of creamers, whipped toppings, vegetable shortenings and other speciality dairy and non-dairy products.

SensoryEffects, which is a portfolio company of the Dallas-based private equity firm Highlander Partners, plans to integrate the acquired businesses into the SensoryEffects Powder Systems division based in Defiance, Ohio.

In addition to this acquisition, the company expanded its existing senior credit facility to $100m.

SensoryEffects president and CEO Charles A. Nicolais said the company is excited to further its ability to deliver customised food and beverage ingredients by expanding its spray drying capabilities, capacity and experience.

"We will now possess a broad range of spray drying capabilities across four production sites: Defiance, OH, Bridgeton, MO, Reading, PA, and now Marshfield, WI," Nicolais said.

Quality Ingredients is a US-based provider of spray drying services and powdered food ingredients.

The divestment will allow the company to focus completely on its contract manufacturing and speciality ingredients businesses.

In August, the company entered into an agreement to sell its Marshfield, Wisconsin facility and related dairy and non-dairy creamer business to SensoryEffects.

Customised food and beverage ingredients supplier SensoryEffects operates three business units – SensoryEffects Powder Systems, SensoryEffects Flavor Systems and SensoryEffects Cereal Systems.
