Groupe Lactalis Acquires Rachel’s Dairy

French dairy giant Groupe Lactalis, a subsidiary of BSA International, has taken over Rachel’s Dairy in Aberystwyth, UK, for an estimated £30m ($47m).

The deal comes weeks after a bid from a Welsh-based consortium was turned down by company owner Dean Foods and sale agents Rothschild.

Speculation about the company’s sale, which has a turnover of around £30m, emerged in May when it was put on the market for £20m ($31m).

Dean Foods is believed to be restructuring, with plans to reduce costs by $300m over three to five years.
