White Nile to Start Sugar Factory

White Nile Sugar Company will open a $1.1bn sugar factory in Sudan, Africa, next year, according to a company official.

The company is planning to reach an initial capacity of 250,000t by November 2011 and be fully operational at 450,000t by 2012.

The company said it received nearly two-thirds of the funding from Middle Eastern funds and banks and the remaining third from Sudanese banks.

Kenana Sugar Company holds a 30% share in White Nile.

Sudan consumes around 1.2 million tons of sugar a year while its annual production is about 800,000t.
