Northern Foods Reports Quarterly Loss

Northern Foods’ overall sales, which stood at £977m ($1.4bn), fell 1.6% in the first quarter compared to a drop of 1.8% in the previous three months.

The company said its frozen foods business fell 25% following its exit from the Birds Eye co-pack business in June 2009.

Group sales saw a 5.6% fall in bakery sales.

The UK food producer said its chilled foods, including sandwiches, salads and ready meals, rose 14%.
