EU Lawmakers Call for Ban on Meat from Cloned Animals

European Parliamentarians have called for a ban on meat and milk from cloned animals.

The lawmakers are understood to have ethical objections to the industrial production of cloned meat for food as the animals have more defects, age at a faster rate and die prematurely.

The lawmakers want EU Governments to agree to insert the ban in draft rules on nanotechnology and meat from animals fed genetically modified plants, reports euroactiv.com.

A majority of MEPs rejected an amendment calling for the compulsory labelling of food products that derive from animals raised on genetically modified feed.
