Meat Boosts Tyson Foods Q2 Profits

Tyson Foods has reported second quarter earnings of $156m against a loss of $119m a year earlier.

The US meat processor posted a 9.5% increase in quarterly sales of $6.9bn, compared to $6.3bn a year ago.

Its chicken segment rose from $2.4bn to $2.5bn, while pork sales increased from $844m to $929m.

The company’s operating income in beef processing more than quadrupled during the quarter to $126m, while pork operating income doubled to $69m.

Operating income in chicken was $114m against a loss of $46m a year earlier, while sales rose 5.5% to $2.49bn.

During the quarter, the firm’s prepared foods operating income was $37m.
