American Dairy Posts Q4 Loss

American Dairy said its Q4 2009 revenue decreased by 45% to $44m compared to $79.6m during the same time a year earlier.

Revenue from milk powder products was $20.7m, or 47.2% of total sales, down from $59.3m, or 74.5% of total sales, in Q4 2008, the food manufacturer said.

The company’s revenue from raw milk powder was $18.9m, compared to $16.7m in the fourth quarter of 2008.

The firm reported a gross loss of $3m in the quarter compared to a gross profit of $36.6m in Q4 2008.

Revenue increased 40% to $271.1m in the full year ended 31 December 2009 from $193.2m in the same period of 2008.

Contributions from milk powder products were $216.2m, or 80%, of sales in the full year, up 78% from $121.3m, or 62.8% of sales, in the prior year.
