Quake Hits Chilean Wine Production

Chile has lost nearly 12.5% of its current grape production following the 8.8-magnitude earthquake that hit the country in February.

The quake-hit central-south region of Chile, home to nearly 70% of the country’s vineyards was also swamped by a tsunami.

According to estimates, the country lost 125 million litres, worth $250m.

Chile is the ninth-largest wine producer in the world, annually producing nearly 8.8 million hectoliters of wine, according to the International Organisation of Vine and Wine.
