China’s Wealth to Drive Beverage Future

Beverage consumption growth in China resulting from rising personal income levels will lead to a greater demand for beverage containers, touching 300 billion units in 2012.

The introduction of canned products and rising utilisation of single-serving containers will be the major contributors to the growth, a report by live-pr.com said.

Figures in the report show rising growth of single-use small PET bottles will boost plastic container market share as opposed to metal and glass containers, accounting for nearly 43% of total beverage container demand in 2012.

The use of nonreturnable beer bottles, however, will help glass remain the second largest beverage container material.

According to the report demand for paperboard containers is forecast to reach nearly 64 billion units in 2012, representing the fastest growth among all beverage containers.

Milk will remain the leading market for beverage containers, followed by beer, with market shares in unit terms of 33% and 19% respectively in 2012.
