Carlsberg Profits Still Up Despite Recession

Denying the current recession, Danish brewer Carlsberg topped its Q2 forecasts with operating profits for its Eastern European, Russian and Asian businesses.

Earnings before interest and tax rose from kr3.15bn to kr3.66bn for the quarter on last year’s amounts.

Despite the rise, however, Carlsberg still reduced its net year revenue for 2009 from kr63bn to kr61bn but kept operating profit at kr9bn.

Despite being in a an industry that has traditionally shown resilience during a recession, Carlsberg is still looking to reduce operating profits which has helped it maintain earnings for the first six months of the year.
