The Koch Foods feed mill is being constructed in Attalla, Etowah County, Alabama, US. The grain storage and distribution facility will have the capacity to hold one billion corn bushels.

The project will be the most innovative and technologically advanced grain storage facility and will support the recently expanded Gadsden processing facility. The high-tech facility at Attalla is expected to create 28 jobs and will have an annual payroll of $1m.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the $50m poultry feed mill facility was held in November 2019. Planned to be operational in 2021, it is expected to be one of the largest poultry processing plants in the US.

Koch Foods feed mill details

The new Koch Foods feed mill is being built on a 130-acre site in Attalla. Gadsden-Etowah Industrial Development Authority (IDA) team and the City of Attalla are supporting Koch Foods for the project.

Another key partner involved in the project is Norfolk Southern Railways, which will support the transportation of corn bushels by rail.

In addition to creating more than 200 construction jobs, the project is expected to support two industrial sectors, namely food / farming and logistics.

Gadsden plant expansion details

Koch Foods expanded its Gadsden plant by introducing a fourth processing line to the feed mill facility to boost its production capacity. The facility currently processes an additional 672,000 chickens a week.

Founded in 1985 in Park Ridge, Illinois, Koch Foods began its business with one-room chicken-cutting and de-boning operations with 13 employees.

The company has since then grown significantly to become one of the top poultry processors in the US. It currently employs 13,000 people, with operations across the states of Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and Ohio.

Koch is a vertically integrated poultry processor specialised in supplying chicken to consumer products, export channels and the foodservice sector. Its client base includes C-stores, national restaurant chains, grocery stores and hospitals.

Koch Foods mainly focuses on efficient chicken processing and has recently been recognised for Outstanding Safety Performance by the US Joint Industry Safety and Health Council.
