Passport Foods divests certain assets of Washington facility to SAVr

Skyview Capital portfolio company Passport Foods (SVC) has sold selected assets of its facility in Kent, Washington, US, to Asian food manufacturer SAVr.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed by the companies.

Based in Ontario, California, Passport Foods is a portfolio company of Skyview Capital and has been engaged in the distribution of a wide range of entrees and appetisers to the retail, food service, grocery and club channels across the US market.

Passport Foods CEO Mark Thomson said: “We believe that the Kent facility is in good hands for future growth with Camillo and Isaac Cheng of SAVr. They have the local expertise and history with this Seattle-area operation.

“Passport will now be able to focus attention on our core business in our Ontario operations, which produces and distributes ethnic foods for the foodservice and retail/club channels. Both teams worked well together to complete this transaction.”

With this acquisition, SAVr intends to diversify its product line and further enhance its manufacturing capacity. The House of Bee and Golden Pheasant brands will become part of the SAVr portfolio.

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, SAVr manufactures Asian-style wheat noodles, rice noodles, dumpling wrappers and fortune cookies under its Rose Brand and SAVr Foods brands.

SAVr operations vice-president Isaac Cheng said: “We are extremely excited by this acquisition as it allows us to launch the modernisation of our manufacturing processes while extending the product expertise and long history of the Tsue Chong Company.”

“These enhanced manufacturing capabilities and capacity provide great opportunities for us to extend our national accounts and widen our distribution network.”

Passport’s Kent facility previously operated under the Golden Pheasant brand and will now be managed by the Cheng family.
