US Foods to acquire distribution companies from Toba

US Foods has announced plans to acquire three distribution companies owned and operated by Nebraska-based Toba for an undisclosed amount.

The companies that US Foods is planning to acquire comprise The Thompson Company, Braunger Foods and Variety Foods.

Entering the food distribution segment with the acquisition of The Thompson Company in 1995, Toba later expanded its footprint by acquiring Braunger Foods in 2002 and Variety Foods in 2007.

US Foods Midwest president Russell Scott said: “This acquisition allows us to expand further into the Midwest and positions us even closer to our customers.

“We look forward to building on the expertise of the strong employee base at The Thompson Company, Braunger Foods and Variety Foods and welcoming them to US Foods.”

With plans to operate all three distribution companies, US Foods intends to retain an employee base of nearly 250 workers.

The transaction is expected to close later this month.

With a workforce of more than 25,000 employees across 60 locations, US Foods offers a range of products and a complete suite of e-commerce, technology and business solutions.

The company annually generates $23bn in revenue.
