United Natural Foods acquires Tony’s Fine Foods for $195m

United Natural Foods has completed its acquisition of Tony’s Fine Foods, a distributor of perishable food products, for a total consideration of about $195.3m.

Established in 1934, Tony’s Fine Foods sells products primarily to retail and speciality grocers, food service customers and other distribution companies.

The company distributes its products, including various speciality protein, cheese, deli, food service and bakery goods, throughout the western US, as well as Alaska and Hawaii. Tony’s Fine Foods is headquartered in West Sacramento, California.

The final purchase price remains subject to a customary post-closing net working capital adjustment.

Tony’s Fine Foods is now wholly-owned by United Natural Foods and it will continue to operate under the same name.

United Natural Foods is a distributor of natural and organic foods, speciality foods and related products in the US and Canada.

The company offers services to different retail formats, including conventional supermarket chains, natural product superstores, independent retail operators and the food service channel.

Its product portfolio includes dry, refrigerated and frozen groceries, as well as personal care products, supplements, fresh produce, perishables, general merchandise and non-food products.

The company’s distribution operations are divided into five principal units, namely UNFI, UNFI Canada, Trudeau Distributing Company, Albert’s Organics and Select Nutrition, including Honest Green.
