Symington’s acquires Tanfield Foods

Manufacturer of innovative meals and specialist nutrition products, Tanfield Foods, has been acquired by UK-based Symington’s.

The transaction is aimed at strengthening Symington’s position in the convenience food industry.

Tanfield’s portfolio includes the ‘Look What We Found’ brand, the Ilumi free from brand and a range of own label products for the major retailers in the UK.

Speaking on the deal, Symington’s chief executive officer David Salkeld said: "The Tanfield Foods acquisition is a positive step forward in strengthening our position in branded convenience food and we welcome the people of Tanfield Foods to the Symington’s family.

"Our two companies have a proven track record of success in product innovation and brand development in these growing categories and working together we are very well placed to continue to surprise and delight our consumers."

Symington’s brands include Mugshot, Ragu, Chicken Tonight and Ainsley Harriott. Established in 1827, the company is said to have invented instant soup using pea flour.
