Kellogg Company recalls 23 snacks over concern of undeclared peanut residue

Kellogg Company has issued a voluntary recall of various snacks and cookies as these may contain undeclared peanut residue.

The recall impacting 23 products was initiated after its supplier Tennessee-based Grain Craft recalled wheat flour that may have low levels of peanut residue. Affected brands include Mother’s, Keebler, Kellogg’s Special K brownies, Murray and Famous Amos.

Consumers with severe peanut allergies have been urged to avoid the recalled products.

However, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated that the amount of peanut exposure from the flour is low and is not expected to cause adverse health impacts in the majority of allergic consumers.

Until now, the company has not received reports of related illness.

Frito-Lay and Hostess Brands also issued a recall this month as their snacks and cakes were made with Grain Craft’s flour, reported The Wall Street Journal

In April, Grain Craft informed the FDA after a customer complained of finding peanut residue in cookies.

Following this, tests were carried out which indicated peanut residue in a type of winter flour, which was supplied to several companies.
