JBT Corporation purchases assets of Novus X-Ray

John Bean Technologies (JBT) Corporation has acquired certain assets of Novus X-Ray, a provider of advanced x-ray food inspection systems.

Under the deal, JBT’s protein and liquid foods system ranges will be integrated with Novus X-Ray’s technology. A technical team of JBT will support the x-ray equipment, selling it through JBT’s global sales network.

X-ray inspection systems are better than conventional metal detectors as they are equipped with superior detection capabilities.

The x-ray inspection systems can recognise various metallic and non-metallic food contaminants to ensure enhanced food safety. These upgraded inspection systems can easily identify stainless steel, which is commonly used in food processing equipment.

The systems can also recognise difficult material that cannot be easily identified by traditional metal detectors. Novus x-ray systems are easy to use and involves a low maintenance cost that makes it useful and economical.

JBT FoodTech president Steve Smith said: "Our customers want a contamination detection system that helps ensure food safety.

JBT is a worldwide technology solutions provider to high-value segments of food and beverage industry. The company focuses on providing liquid foods, proteins and automated system solutions.

In September, JBT signed a definitive agreement to purchase shares of food processing system provider A&B Process Systems for $102m.
