Hostess Brands recalls snack cakes and donuts over possible peanut residue

Hostess Brands has issued a voluntary recall of 710,000 cases of select snack cakes and donuts following a recent flour recall by its supplier Grain Craft due to possible undeclared peanut residue.

The Hostess Brands’ products that are being recalled were produced using the Grain Craft flour. A number of these products may feature low levels of peanut residue.

People with an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

As the amount of peanut exposure in the affected products is considered to be low, adverse health effects in the vast majority of allergic consumers are not expected.

Hostess has received notice of two allergic reactions due to consumption of the product under this recall.

The company issued a recall as a precautionary measure.

The products affected by the recall include single-serve snack cakes and donuts, multipack boxes and bagged donuts.

These products have been sold at mass merchandisers, grocery stores, distributors, dollar stores, drug stores, and convenience stores in US and Mexico.

Consumers who have purchased an affected product and have a peanut allergy have been urged to discard the product or return it for a refund.
