Danish Crown plans to establish new processing plant in Shanghai, China

Food processing company Danish Crown has revealed plans to invest nearly kr300m ($43.9m) to establish a new processing and retail product plant in Shanghai, China.

The company already exports its products such as fresh pork, trotters, ears, and tails to Chinese market. Production at the new facility will be based on Danish raw materials.

According to Danish Crown CEO Jais Valeur, the new establishment is an opportunity to take advantage of and better meet the changing consumer pattern in China.

Valeur noted that the Chinese consumers are increasingly demanding for convenience, quality and animal welfare.

In a statement post on its website, Jais Valeur said: “This is one of the chances we should take as a big company and try to see if we can get closer to the market, closer to consumers and further up in the value chain in China, rather than just being a raw material supplier.”

As part of its strategy towards 2021, Danish Crown is set to consolidate its existing positions in Denmark, Sweden, the UK and Poland, invest in innovation, and focus on enhancing the value of the group’s raw materials.
