ADM acquires remaining 20% stake in Toepfer for €83m

US-based agri-processing company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) has completed its acquisition of the remaining 20% stake in Alfred C Toepfer International from Union InVivo, for around €83m.

Currently, ADM is working on integrating Toepfer’s operations into its operations.

The company had owned an 80% stake in Toepfer since 2002.

Toepfer is a Germany-based commodity trading firm that deals with agricultural and processed products.

The firm’s trading activities are concentrated on grain, feedstuffs, oilseeds, vegetable oils, and fertilizers.

With around 37 offices and 2,000 employees, Toepfer has a sales volume of about 53 million tonnes annually.

The company also has inland, river and export facilities in Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine and the US.

ADM senior vice president and agricultural services president Joe Taets said the completion of the acquisition is an important step for the firm’s agricultural services division to become a full value chain from origination to destination.

"We can now fully combine ADM’s integrated supply chain, global origination network and risk-management expertise with Toepfer’s strong global marketing and distribution capabilities," Taets added.

ADM also converts oilseeds, corn, wheat and cocoa into products for food, animal feed, industrial and energy uses.

The company has 270 processing plants and 470 crop procurement facilities.
