Netafim to acquire Dutch greenhouse company Gakon

Irrigation solutions provider Netafim has agreed to acquire Dutch turnkey greenhouse projects provider Gakon Horticultural Projects to meet the rising demand for local food production throughout the year.

The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.

Netafim CEO Gabriel Miodownik said: “Greenhouse projects were already a strategic priority for Netafim, with Covid-19 further validating the importance of food security and a local fresh supply.

“We are delighted to join forces with Gakon to enhance our in-house greenhouse related capabilities, including production, and provide local farmers and growers across the world with greenhouse solutions and services that will support both farmers and local food security.”

Established in 1965, Netafim has been active for several decades in the greenhouse segment. It is now expanding its offering in the production and supply of top-tier greenhouse projects.

With 33 subsidiaries and 17 manufacturing plants across the globe, Netafim provides advanced irrigation and fertigation solutions to agricultural producers in more than 110 countries.

Acquisition of Gakon is synergetic and will combine Netafim’s expertise in precision agriculture and Gakon’s advanced greenhouse technology.

Headquartered in Westland, Netherlands, Gakon produces its own greenhouses and servicing high-quality turnkey horticultural projects.

It has expertise in all aspects of greenhouse project execution, including glasshouse manufacturing, and a proven track record in key markets.
