Nestle to introduce new food brand in UK

Swiss food and beverage company Nestlé is set to introduce a new food brand named ‘Garden Gourmet’ in the UK.

The new brand is expected to offer healthy meat-free products in line with the consumer lifestyle trend known as flexitarianism, where consumers focus on eating less meat and more plant-based protein.

Garden Gourmet’s product selection will include 12 plant-based products, ranging from meat-free burgers, mince and chicken-style pieces to vegetarian flavours such as quinoa and broccoli bakes, as well as beetroot falafel.

Nestlé UK Food Division managing director Paula Jordan said: “We are incredibly excited to introduce this new delicious food brand into the meat-free category, which is one of the most innovative areas in the food segment.

“We find that people want to enjoy a healthier diet and try to eat less meat, but they are sometimes disappointed with the taste.

“We’ve been working hard to offer something different to consumers and have developed a versatile range of delicious meat-free products packed with flavour to make sure there is no need to compromise on taste ever again.”

The new range is claimed to have been produced with no artificial flavours or preservatives and is suitable for consumers looking to cut down on meat without sacrificing taste.

Additionally, the products contain less salt, sugar, fat or saturated fat, which means that they feature no red labels under the colour-coded nutrition labelling system.

The Garden Gourmet line also meets the salt targets recommended by the government for meat alternatives.

The new products will be available at Sainsbury’s and Ocado outlets across the UK from 27 May.
