Lesaffre acquires Alltech’s Serbian yeast extract facility

French yeast manufacturer Lesaffre has acquired Alltech’s yeast extract facility in Serbia for an undisclosed price.

The acquisition is reported to be in line with Lesaffre’s expansion strategy in the nutrition and health segment, while it will also strengthen its position in the yeast extract market.

Lesaffre CEO Antoine Baule said: “On the yeast extracts and its derivatives market, Lesaffre is recognised as a reliable partner with expertise in producing tailor-made solutions.

“This acquisition will strengthen our presence in this market.

“In fact, now with eight facilities established around the world (Western and Eastern Europe, China, United States, Brazil), we are all the more committed to meeting our customer-specific needs globally.”

Upon completion of the deal, Alltech’s Serbian facility will now be known as Biospringer RS and will continue to produce baker’s yeast for the Serbian market as well as yeast extracts for food and animal feed industries.

Alltech meanwhile will continue to focus on its core activities following unprecedented growth in recent years.”

Established and founded in 1980, Alltech produces and processes yeast additives, organic trace minerals, feed ingredients, pre-mix, and feed.
