Kameya Foods signs licencing agreement with EnWave

Japanese pickle manufacturing company Kameya Foods has signed a royalty bearing commercial licence agreement with Canadian company EnWave.

As per the terms of the licence agreement, Kameya Foods procured EnWave’s 10KW commercial Radiant Energy Vacuum (REV) machine in order to initiate commercial production in Japan.

EnWave’s REV technology has the potential to produce healthy, premium fruit, vegetable and seafood products, which can be sold as ingredients or retail consumer products.

Additionally, the low temperature vacuum-microwave drying technology maintains the colour, flavour and nutrients of the product at the time of drying.

It also enables uniform drying with flexible moisture content that cannot be obtained with freeze drying or air drying.

Established in 1947, Kameya Foods has access to a wide range of local, raw materials, including wasabi, which is grown at the edge of Mt Amagi, as well as other fresh vegetables and seafood from Suruga Bay.

Under the licence agreement, the company will have a non-exclusive right to process a range of premium seafood and fruit products.

The agreement will also offer Kameya Foods an exclusive right to process wasabi, tofu and tea products in Japan.

It is said to be the second licencing agreement signed by EnWave in Japan.

In July 2016, EnWave extended its technology evaluation and licence option agreement with fresh dairy product manufacturer Ultima Foods.

As part of the extended agreement, the REV machinery was installed in an Ultima processing facility in Quebec.

The machinery helped Ultima to refine its product applications and target potential commercialisation.
