Hain Celestial concludes sale of French organic brand Danival

US-based food company Hain Celestial has completed the sale of its French organic brand Danival to a subsidiary of Wessanen.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed by either company.

Danival is engaged in the production of savoury foods, sweet food products and natural salts. It also offers Japanese food items.

Its product portfolio includes purees, soups, salads, dried fruits and sauces.

Hain Celestial president and CEO Mark Schiller said: “We are pleased to complete the strategic sale of Danival in Europe to Wessanen, a leader in healthy and sustainable food in the European market.

“This transaction helps to further our brand portfolio simplification journey as we continue to improve our margins and cashflow to fuel long-term sustainable growth and profitability.”

The divesture of the French organic brand is part of Hain Celestial’s strategy to simplify its portfolio.

Danival currently employs nearly 120 people.

Wessanen CEO Christophe Barnouin said: “Danival will be a perfect fit with our family of companies. The brand is a pioneer in the organic French market with strong commitments: 100% organic, locally sourced, free from flavours, food colourings and thickeners.

“It reinforces our commitment to the French HFS channel and strengthens our position in the Veggie Meals category with its own production facilities and local sourcing in South West France. Our ambition is to further grow Danival’s business and leverage their sustainability commitment across Wessanen.”

Last October, Hain Celestial completed the divestment of the Arrowhead Mills and SunSpire brands to Hometown Food for $15m.
