CJ Cheiljedang to acquire two frozen food companies

South Korea-based food producer CJ Cheiljedang is set to acquire two frozen food manufacturing companies in the US and Germany, for an undisclosed price.

CJ Cheiljedang is a key subsidiary of food and entertainment conglomerate CJ Group.

The company’s acquisition of Kahiki Foods in the US and Mainfrost in Germany is aimed at strengthening its global footprint.

Kahiki Foods is engaged in the distribution of food products such as egg rolls and noodles to some of the major stores in the US, including Walmart and Sam’s Club.

Mainfrost, which has been distributing frozen dumplings to retailers across Europe, is already manufacturing some of the food products for CJ.

CJ Cheiljedang plans to improve recognition for the brand through restaurant chains in Britain, Germany, and other countries in Europe, with the acquisition of Mainfrost.

With the latest purchases, CJ Cheiljedang aims to become a global food name, while bolstering its foothold in America and Europe.

CJ Group is said to currently be on track to acquire US food processor Schwan’s Company in a deal valued at about $2.5bn.

Upon successful completion, the deal will be the largest for the South Korean company.

With the acquisition of Kahiki Foods, CJ Cheiljedang will have four food manufacturing facilities and will get a new platform to further expand its capabilities in North as well as South American markets.

The Korean food manufacturer expects to close the deals with Kahiki Foods and Mainfrost by next month.

Earlier this year, CJ Cheiljedang acquired Russian food company Ravioli in a $26.8m deal.
