CFC-led Quebec investors acquire puff pastries manufacturer Dumas

Canada-based investors led by private holding company Champlain Financial Corporation (CFC) have acquired Boulangerie-Pâtisserie Dumas (Dumas), a manufacturer and distributor of puff pastries, croissants and vol-au-vents.

Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed by either company.

Established in 1992, Dumas sells its products under the Dumas brand, as well as through private label brands of large Canadian grocery chains and secondary food processors.

With more than 60 employees, the company operates a manufacturing facility and has partnerships with retailers across Canada and abroad.

CFC operating partner and Sobeys former CEO Marc Poulin will join Dumas as executive chairman to support the existing management team in expanding and accelerating the firm’s development.

Poulin said: “I’m looking forward to working alongside the existing management team at Dumas to help support the different avenues of growth.

“Dumas has forged a reputation for superior quality products, which will continue to underpin our growth initiatives, a key of focus, which will be increased penetration of the US market.”

The deal is expected to enable Dumas to accelerate its product development and distribution across the country and in the US.

In June 2018, a group of companies comprising Fonds de solidarité FTQ, Fondaction and Investissement Québec partnered with Champlain Financial Corporation to purchase Baxters Canada, a manufacturer of canned soups and sauces in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, and the Canadian subsidiary of UK-based Baxters Food Group.
