US food industry sees a rise of 16.67% in deal activity in April 2021

US food industry saw a rise of 16.67% in overall deal activity during April 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Olam Food Ingredients’ $950m acquisition of Olde Thompson, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 28 deals worth $1.3bn were announced in April 2021, compared with the 12-month average of 24 deals.

venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 18 deals, which accounted for 64.3% of all deals.

In second place was M&A with five deals, followed by private equity with five transactions, respectively accounting for 17.9% and 17.9% of overall deal activity in the US technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US food industry with total deals worth $950m, while venture financing and private equity deals totalled $309.34m and $1.59m respectively.

The top five food industry deals accounted for 84.5% of the overall value during April 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $1.07bn, against the overall value of $1.3bn recorded for the month.

5) Better Ventures, Blue Ledge Capital, Cantos Ventures , Enfini Ventures, Global Founders Capital, Green Monday Ventures, Gullspang Re:Food, Humboldt Fund, Joyance Partners, Lever VC and Point Nine Capital’s venture financing with Mission Barns for $24m.
