US food industry sees a drop of 8.70% in deal activity in January 2021

US food industry saw a drop of 8.70% in overall deal activity during January 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Agronomics, Alpha Impact Investment Management Partners, Clear Current Capital, CPT Capital, Flat World Partners, KBW Ventures, Lewis & Clark Partners, Losa Group, Mcwine, OurCrowd, Radicle Growth, Rage Capital, Rich Products, Siddhi Capital, Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Stray Dog Capital and Thai Union Corporate Venture Fund’s $60m venture financing of BlueNalu, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 21 deals worth $176.46m were announced in January 2021, compared with the 12-month average of 23 deals.

venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 12 deals, which accounted for 57.1% of all deals.

In second place was M&A with six deals, followed by private equity with three transactions, respectively accounting for 28.6% and 14.3% of overall deal activity in the US technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading deal category in the US food industry with total deals worth $151.46m, followed by M&A deals totalled $25m.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $149.8m, against the overall value of $176.46m recorded for the month.
