US food industry sees a drop of 0.00% in deal activity in August 2021

US food industry saw a flat growth in overall deal activity during August 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Cargill and Continental Grain’s $4.53bn acquisition of Sanderson Farms, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 23 deals worth $7.9bn were announced in August 2021, compared with the 12-month average of 23 deals.

venture financing was the leading category in the month in terms of volume with 11 deals, which accounted for 47.8% of all deals.

In second place was M&A with seven deals, followed by private equity with five transactions, respectively accounting for 30.4% and 21.7% of overall deal activity in the US technology industry during the month.

In terms of value of deals, M&A was the leading deal category in the US food industry with total deals worth $4.53bn, while private equity and venture financing deals totalled $3.3bn and $84.9m respectively.

The top five food industry deals accounted for 99.7% of the overall value during August 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $7.89bn, against the overall value of $7.9bn recorded for the month.
