Total food industry M&A deals in Q4 2020 worth $5.01bn were announced in the US, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 55.5% over the previous quarter and a rise of 74.7% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $2.87bn.

The US held a 55.9% share of the global food industry M&A deal value that totalled $8.96bn in Q4 2020.

In terms of deal activity, the US recorded 34 deals during Q4 2020, marking a rise of 30.8% over the previous quarter and a rise of 17.2% over the last four-quarter average.

The top five food industry M&A deals accounted for 94.8% of the overall value during Q4 2020.

The combined value of the top five food M&A deals stood at $4.75bn, against the overall value of $5.01bn recorded for the month.
