North America’s food industry saw a drop of 7.41% in deal activity during March 2021

North America’s food industry saw a drop of 7.41% in deal activity during March 2021, when compared with the last 12-month average, led by Lindsay Goldberg’s $850m acquisition of Aryzta, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

 

A total of 25 food industry deals worth $1.26bn were announced for the region in March 2021, against the 12-month average of 27 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in March 2021 with 14 transactions, representing a 56% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with eight deals, followed by private equity deals with three transactions, respectively capturing a 32% and 12% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, private equity was the leading category in North America’s food industry with $850m, while venture financing and M&A deals totalled $404.87m and $9.81m, respectively.

The top five food deals accounted for 99.6% of the overall value during March 2021.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $1.26bn, against the overall value of $1.26bn recorded for the month.

5) NHS Industries’ acquisition of Be Good Meats Food for $2.31m.
