North America’s food industry sees a rise of 15.4% in deal activity in June 2019

North America’s food industry saw a rise of 15.4% in deal activity during June 2019, when compared with the last 12-month average, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

A total of 30 food industry deals worth $37.04m were announced for the region in June 2019, against the 12-month average of 26 deals.

Of all the deal types, M&A saw most activity in June 2019 with 14 transactions, representing a 46.7% share for the region.

In second place was venture financing with 13 deals, followed by private equity deals with three transactions, respectively capturing a 43.3% and 10% share of the overall deal activity for the month.

In terms of value of deals, venture financing was the leading category in North America’s food industry with $32.9m, followed by M&A with $4.14m.

 

North America food industry deals in June 2019: Top deals

The top five food deals accounted for 70.6% of the overall value during June 2019.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $26.15m, against the overall value of $37.04m recorded for the month. The top announced food deal tracked by GlobalData in June 2019 was Alium Capital Management’s $10m venture financing of Hart Dairy.

In second place was the $10m venture financing of SeaCo Foods International by New Crop Capital and Stray Dog Capital and in third place was Plus Products’ $3.9m acquisition of Emerald Bay Wellness.

The $1.25m venture financing of Life is Life by 25Madison, Gather Ventures and Luke Abbott and Jay Brown, Jay-Z, Larry Marcus and Marcy Venture Partners’ venture financing of Vivis Life for $1m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
