Food industry venture financing deals total $341m globally in May 2021

The $170m venture financing of Good Meat was the food industry’s top venture financing deal as total deals worth $341m were announced globally in May 2021, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 67.8% over the previous month of $1.06bn and a drop of 4.9% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $358.37m.

Comparing venture financing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $170.1m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $170m.

In terms of volumes, Asia-Pacific emerged as the top region for food industry venture financing deals globally, followed by Europe and then North America.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in May 2021 was the China with six deals, followed by the Germany with three and Republic of Korea (South Korea) with two.

In 2021, as of May, food venture financing deals worth $2.86bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 57.2% year on year.
