Food industry venture financing deals total $1.1bn globally in April 2021

The $700m venture financing of Dingdong Maicai was the food industry’s top venture financing deal as total deals worth $1.1bn were announced globally in April 2021, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 0.9% over the previous month of $1.07bn and a rise of 275.8% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $282.06m.

Comparing venture financing deals value in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $737.17m. At the country level, the China topped the list in terms of deal value at $733.85m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for food industry venture financing deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in April 2021 was the US with 18 deals, followed by the China with nine and India with six.

In 2021, as of April, food venture financing deals worth $2.52bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 48.9% year on year.

The combined value of the top five food venture financing deals stood at $815.35m, against the overall value of $1.1bn recorded for the month.
