Food industry venture financing deals in Q2 2019 total $229.87m globally

Total food industry venture financing deals in Q2 2019 worth $229.87m were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 53.3% over the previous quarter and a drop of 4.9% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $244.18m.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $168.92m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $168.47m.

In terms of volumes, North America emerged as the top region for food industry venture financing deals globally, followed by Asia-Pacific and then Europe.

The top country in terms of venture financing deals activity in Q2 2019 was the US with 20 deals, followed by China with nine and Canada with four.

In 2019, as of the end of Q2 2019, food venture financing deals worth $722.27m were announced globally, marking an increase of 383% year on year.

The top five food industry venture financing deals accounted for 66.6% of the overall value during Q2 2019.

The combined value of the top five food industry venture financing deals stood at $153.15m, against the overall value of $229.87m recorded for the quarter. The top announced food industry venture financing deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Karl Handelsman and Rou Mei Capital’s $100m venture financing of Mammuty.

In second place was the $16.5m venture financing of Stryve Foods by Meaningful Partners, Murano Group and Pendyne Capital and in third place was Gaocheng Capital, SSVC Partners, Third Rock Ventures and Xinlide Capital’s $15m venture financing of Food Doctor Health Management.

The $11.65m venture financing of Aleph Farms by Cargill Ventures, M-INDUSTRY Group and VisVires New Protein and Alium Capital Management Pty.’s venture financing of Hart Dairy for $10m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
