Food industry private equity deals in Q4 2020 total $1.1bn globally

Total food industry private equity deals in Q4 2020 worth $1.1bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 41.7% over the previous quarter and a rise of 47% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $766.59m.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $600m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $600m.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry private equity deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of private equity deals activity in Q4 2020 was the US with nine deals, followed by Canada with five and Italy with four.

In 2020, as of the end of Q4 2020, food private equity deals worth $2.44bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 74.3% year on year.

The top five food industry private equity deals accounted for 89.5% of the overall value during Q4 2020.

The combined value of the top five food private equity deals stood at $988.62m, against the overall value of $1.1bn recorded for the month.

5) The Carlyle Group’s private equity deal with Unifrutti International for $40.75m.
