Food industry private equity deals in Q2 2019 total $1.03bn globally

Total food industry private equity deals in Q2 2019 worth $1.03bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 51.2% over the previous quarter and a drop of 39.9% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $1.72bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $548.88m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $400m.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry private equity deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of private equity deals activity in Q2 2019 was the US with ten deals, followed by Spain with three and India with three.

In 2019, as of the end of Q2 2019, food private equity deals worth $3.14bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 10.4% year on year.

Food industry private equity deals in Q2 2019: Top deals

The top five food industry private equity deals accounted for 90.2% of the overall value during Q2 2019.

The combined value of the top five food industry private equity deals stood at $929.9m, against the overall value of $1.03bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced food industry private equity deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was Bain Capital’s $320m private equity deal with CJ Foods.

In second place was the $241.45m private equity deal with F & B Nutrition Sdn by Southern Capital Group and in third place was Canada Pension Plan Investment Board’s $148.88m private equity deal with Premium Brands.

The $139.57m private equity deal with Pastas Gallo by Ventura Equity Partners and Aterian Investment Partners III’s private equity deal with Hain Pure Protein for $80m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
