Food industry M&A deals total $4.64bn globally in Q1 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $4.64bn were announced globally in Q1 2021, led by Hormel Foods’ $3.35bn asset transaction with The Kraft Heinz, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 50% over the previous quarter of $9.28bn and a drop of 31.3% when compared with the last four-quarter average, which stood at $6.75bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $3.42bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $3.39bn.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in Q1 2021 was the US with 25 deals, followed by the UK with 12 and Canada with ten.

In 2021, at the end of , M&A deals worth $4.64bn were announced globally in food industry, marking a decrease of 37% year on year.
