Food industry M&A deals total $4.08bn globally in February 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $4.08bn were announced globally in February 2021, led by Hormel Foods’ $3.35bn asset transaction with Kraft Heinz, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 304% over the previous month of $1.01bn and a rise of 78.2% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.29bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $3.35bn. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $3.35bn.

In terms of volumes, Asia-Pacific emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Europe.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in February 2021 was the US with eight deals, followed by the Australia with three and India with three.

In 2021, as of February, food M&A deals worth $5.1bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 28.7% year on year.

The combined value of the top five food M&A deals stood at $4.08bn, against the overall value of $4.08bn recorded for the month.
