Food industry M&A deals total $175.69m globally in March 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $175.69m were announced globally in March 2021, led by Seeka’s $59m acquisition of Opotiki Packing and Coolstorage, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 95.8% over the previous month of $4.16bn and a drop of 91.3% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.02bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $83.29m. At the country level, the New Zealand topped the list in terms of deal value at $59m.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in March 2021 was the US with ten deals, followed by the UK with six and Canada with four.

In 2021, as of March, food M&A deals worth $4.64bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 37% year on year.
