Food industry M&A deals total $109.34m globally in January 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $109.34m were announced globally in January 2021, led by Barilla Holding’s $48.73m acquisition of Pasta Evangelists, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 89.2% over the previous month of $1.01bn and a drop of 95.1% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.24bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $57.65m. At the country level, the UK topped the list in terms of deal value at $48.73m.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Asia-Pacific.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in January 2021 was the US with six deals, followed by the UK with five and Canada with five.

In 2021, as of January, food M&A deals worth $109.34m were announced globally, marking an increase of 75.03% year on year.
