Food industry M&A deals total $1.8bn globally in April 2021

Total food industry M&A deals worth $1.8bn were announced globally in April 2021, led by Olam Food Ingredients’ $950m acquisition of Olde Thompson, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 906.3% over the previous month of $179.86m and a drop of 13% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $2.08bn.

Comparing M&A deals value in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $950.9m. At the country level, the US topped the list in terms of deal value at $950m.

In terms of volumes, Europe emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by North America and then Middle East and Africa.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in April 2021 was the US with five deals, followed by the UK with four and Canada with three.

In 2021, as of April, food M&A deals worth $7.15bn were announced globally, marking an increase of 9.5% year on year.

The combined value of the top five food M&A deals stood at $1.8bn, against the overall value of $1.8bn recorded for the month.
