Total food industry M&A deals in August 2020 worth $638.66m were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 55% over the previous month and a drop of 67.2% when compared with the last 12-month average, which stood at $1.95bn.

Comparing deals value in different regions of the globe, Asia-Pacific held the top position, with total announced deals in the period worth $586.64m. At the country level, Australia topped the list in terms of deal value at $408.76m.

In terms of volumes, Asia-Pacific emerged as the top region for food industry M&A deals globally, followed by Europe and then North America.

The top country in terms of M&A deals activity in August 2020 was China with five deals, followed by the US with five and Australia with three.

In 2020, as of the end of August 2020, food M&A deals worth $12.45bn were announced globally, marking a decrease of 12.7% year on year.

The combined value of the top five food M&A deals stood at $574.84m, against the overall value of $638.66m recorded for the month.

5) Athena Foods’ asset transaction with Frigorífico Vijagual for $26m.
