Food industry deals total $7.02bn globally in Q1 2021

Hormel Foods’ $3.35bn asset transaction deal with The Kraft Heinz was the food industry’s biggest deal of Q1 2021 as deals worth $7.02bn were announced globally in the quarter, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 35.5% over the previous quarter and a drop of 14.7% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $8.23bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 14.48% with 257 deals in Q1 2021 against the average of 224.50 deals in the last four-quarters.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $4.88bn.

The top five food industry deals accounted for 76.5% of the overall value during Q1 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $5.37bn, against the overall value of $7.02bn recorded for the quarter.
