Food industry deals total $362.26m globally in January 2021

Total food industry deals worth $362.26m were announced globally for January 2021, with the $60m venture financing of BlueNalu being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 70.3% over the previous month of $1.22bn and a drop of 86.7% when compared with the last 12-month average of $2.73bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 6.67% with 70 deals in January 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 75 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $214.08m in January 2021.

The top five deals accounted for 59% of the overall value during January 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $213.73m, against the overall value of $362.26m recorded for the month.
