Food industry deals total $2.9bn globally in April 2021

Total food industry deals worth $2.9bn were announced globally for April 2021, with the $950m acquisition of Olde Thompson being the sector’s biggest investment, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 37.1% over the previous month of $2.1bn and a rise of 9.1% when compared with the last 12-month average of $2.64bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 7.41% with 75 deals in April 2021 when compared to the last 12-month average of 81 deals.

In value terms, North America led the activity with deals worth $1.27bn in April 2021.

The top five deals accounted for 86.4% of the overall value during April 2021.

The combined value of the top five deals stood at $2.49bn, against the overall value of $2.9bn recorded for the month.
