Food industry deals in Q2 2019 total $4.21bn globally

Total food industry deals for Q2 2019 worth $4.21bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked a decrease of 49.9% over the previous quarter and a drop of 64.6% when compared with the last four-quarter average of $11.89bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a rise of 11.05% over the last four-quarter average with 211 deals against the average of 190 deals.

In value terms, Europe led the activity with deals worth $1.27bn.

Food industry deals in Q2 2019: Top deals

The top five food deals accounted for 57.4% of the overall value during Q2 2019.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $2.42bn, against the overall value of $4.21bn recorded for the quarter. The top announced food deal tracked by GlobalData in Q2 2019 was THE GB FOODS’s $1.11bn acquisition of Continental Foods Europe.

In second place was the $371.75m acquisition of Hylife by CPF Canada Holdings and in third place was Olam International’s $359.28m acquisition of Dangote Flour Mills.

The $320m private equity deal with CJ Foods by Bain Capital and Froneri’s asset transaction with Fonterra Co-operative Group for $250.51m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
