Food industry deals in April 2019 total $6.61bn globally

Total food industry deals for April 2019 worth $6.61bn were announced globally, according to GlobalData’s deals database.

The value marked an increase of 156.5% over the previous month and a rise of 65.9% when compared with the last 12-month average of $3.98bn.

In terms of number of deals, the sector saw a drop of 1.6% over the last 12-month average with 64 deals against the average of 63 deals.

In value terms, Asia-Pacific led the activity with deals worth $5.63bn.

Food industry deals in April 2019: Top deals

The top five food deals accounted for 18.9% of the overall value during April 2019.

The combined value of the top five food deals stood at $1.25bn, against the overall value of $6.61bn recorded for the month. The top announced food deal tracked by GlobalData in April 2019 was CPF Canada Holdings’ $371.75m acquisition of Hylife.

In second place was the $359.28m acquisition of Dangote Flour Mills by Olam International and in third place was Henan Kedi Dairy Industry’s $221.28m acquisition of Quick Frozen Food.

The $196.31m asset transaction with Lion-Dairy & Drinks by Saputo and Karl Handelsman and Rou Mei Capital’s venture financing of Mammuty for $100m held fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
